A Brief History
Venture
Scotland was started in 1987 by a group of people who had been involved
in Operation Raleigh (now renamed Raleigh International) expeditions
abroad.
They saw that as part of the 'fourth challenge' with Raleigh (how
to share the learning experiences gained on expedition within your
own community back home) there was a need to develop a Programme
for young people in Scotland from less advantaged backgrounds.
The Programme offers the opportunity to enhance the education
of young people through personal and social development experiences
based around the ethos of informal outdoor learning. The emphasis
since its inception has been for the volunteer-led Programme to
enable and motivate young adults to help themselves through their
involvement in the Programme.
