Core programme

The Core Programme offers participants the chance to sample 'bothy' living as well as take part in a variety of team building, outdoor and conservation activities. The Core Programme for the Winter/Spring 2008 is now completed. We will be recruiting participants and volunteers to take part in the next course, which starts in July 2008. Call us on 0131 475 2395 if you or a young person you are working with would like to get involved.

    ***Volunteer Planning Meetings will take place on the Wednesday preceding            each Bothy Venture at 6pm in Edinburgh or Glasgow respectively***

   ***We require 1-2 volunteers to assist with all day and evening sessions!

   Activity Days take place on Thursdays, 9.30- approx. 5.30pm

Evening sessions take place most Wednesdays 6pm - 9pm***

                          Summer/Autumn Programme 2008

Fri 15th - Sun 17th Aug, 2 x Bothy Ventures for Glasgow participants, Border bothies

This will be the first weekend trip for the Glasgow participants. Two groups will travel South for fun and challenging team building activities at the Border bothies and Wiston Lodge.

Wed 20th August - Glasgow: Evening session

Navigation and campcraft in office. Map reading skills, putting up tents and cooking on trangias.

Wed 20th August - Edinburgh: Advanced Bothy Venture(ABV) Preparation

This evening will be preparing for our ABV, with a focus on looking at our wants and needs.

Thursday 21st August - Glasgow: Activity Day Hillwalk

Reinforcing the map reading skills covered the night before by going to the Whangie.

Thursday 21st August - Edinburgh: Climbing Activity Day

Introduction to climbing with a focus on teamwork and safety.

Fri 22nd Aug - Sun 24th Aug, Advanced Bothy Venture for Edinburgh participants, Glen Etive.

The Edinburgh troops will enjoy a weekend of outdoor and conservation challenges up at the bothy in Glen Etive.

Wed 27th August - Glasgow: Evening Session

Prep for weekend trip, talking about basic needs, planning menu, overview of trip and volunteer meeting.

Wed 27th August - Edinburgh: Beecraigs Pioneering Session

Meeting at 4.00pm for a trip to Beecraigs country park for some fun in the woods.

Thurs 28th August - Glasgow: Activity Day Canoeing

1st Session doing basic canoe skills on Loch Winnoch or Loch Ard weather depending.

Thurs 28th August - Edinburgh: Conservation Day.

Another day of fun and hopefully sun working together and learning about conservation.

Fri 29th Aug - Sun 31st Aug, Advanced Bothy Venture for Glasgow participants, Glen Etive.

The Glasgow participants will head North for their first experience of 'The Bothy' at Glen Etive and a full-on programme of outdoor and conservation activities.
